JAIL INMATE DEATH REPORTED

Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office reports the death of an inmate from the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On Tuesday, May 3 at approximately 5:45 PM Deputies responded to Stafford Hospital Center for the report of the death of an inmate from the Rappahannock Regional Jail who was transported to the hospital by members of the Stafford Fire and Rescue Department. The deputy's investigation indicates that the inmate, a 42 year old female, was found in her cell, at the jail, in an unresponsive state and not breathing. She had been checked just a few minutes prior to her being found. Members of the jail staff immediately started administering CPR to the female and continued administering the CPR until recue personnel arrived on scene. Once on scene, rescue personnel continued CPR while the female was transported to Stafford Hospital Center. The female inmate was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Indications are that the female inmate died of natural causes however the body was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond for an autopsy.
