A 61-year-old Stafford man was discovered to be drinking and driving due to his poor driving behaviors noticed by multiple people.

On June 8th, at approximately 10:38 p.m., Sergeant A.T. Leckemby responded to Garrisonville Road for a drunk driver complaint. The caller advised a truck traveling westbound was “swerving badly” and nearly struck a vehicle. At the same time, dispatch received another call in reference to the same truck. This caller advised their vehicle was struck. Thanks to the original caller’s live updates on the suspect vehicle’s location, Sergeant Leckemby would locate the suspect vehicle on Raintree Boulevard.

Sergeant Leckemby made contact with the driver, who had signs of intoxication including the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The driver advised he consumed nearly six beers at a wedding before making his way home. An open container of Modelo was also observed within the vehicle. When asked why he left the scene of an accident, the driver advised “it was just the mirror.”

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, drinking while driving, and a traffic lane violation. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
