An 18-year-old moped driver was dropped off at Rappahannock Regional Jail during his ride for a Slurpee.

On April 6th at approximately 10:15 p.m. Deputy J.R. Suarez was traveling on Ferry Road when he noticed something small and dark on the roadway. A moped with no lights on was traveling down the road and went through a red light at the intersection of Ferry Road and White Oak Road. Having witnessed the traffic infraction, Deputy Suarez conducted a traffic stop.

The 18-year-old advised he was riding around for a Slurpee run. Due to the driver’s slurred speech and bloodshot eyes it was believed he consumed something a bit heavier than just a Slurpee. The driver admitted to not only consuming four beers prior to driving, but that he knew he was above the legal limit. Despite knowing this, he still decided to drive for his Slurpee. He was also found to be in possession of a vape despite his age.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, unlawful possession of tobacco, failure to obey a traffic light, and driving without lights on. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.
