On March 15th, at approximately 12:49 p.m., deputies responded to an auto accident in the 800 block of Widewater Road. It was discovered a 72-year-old pedestrian was struck. Unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased shortly after units arrived on scene.

The preliminary investigation, along with crash scene evidence collected by our Traffic Safety Unit, revealed the victim went outside to check her mailbox. That is when the driver traveling eastbound on Widewater Road struck her. The driver of the striking vehicle did remain on scene and was uninjured.

The pedestrian was identified as Shelley Moncure, of Stafford. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Ms. Moncure. The crash is still under investigation by Deputy G.P. McCaulley.
