Sunday, we watched the 49ers steal a victory without consequences; however, this isn’t San Francisco, and two Stafford women learned there are consequences for theft in Stafford County.

On January 26th at approximately 12:43 p.m. Deputy F.A. Martinez was at Target, located at 25 South Gateway Drive, investigating two previous larcenies. While investigating those, mentioned in our Daily Incident Report, staff informed him of yet another, only this one was happening live.

Broadcasting live from within the store, Deputy Martinez observed two females actively concealing items. Having seen games like these a million times, Deputy Martinez had nearby deputies position outside the store in order to perform an interception. As the suspects passed all points of sale and attempted to enter the end zone, deputies quickly moved in. Their plan worked better than the Baltimore Ravens and both suspects were detained without incident.

The suspects were identified as Selena Dowd, 19, and Ashleigh Sullivan, 31. When asked what they would find, Dowd advised they would locate “a lot of stuff”. During a search incident to arrest, deputies did locate “a lot of stuff”; however, the flag on the play would be suspected controlled substances located as well. Dowd confirmed the suspected controlled substances were fentanyl, while Sullivan confirmed hers was heroin. After the penalties were discussed, Deputy Martinez was able to punt the stolen merchandise back to Target staff. Luckily for both suspects, they’ll be able to watch the Super Bowl live at Rappahannock Regional Jail. Both were charged with possession of controlled substances, and shoplifting. Dowd was held on a $2,500 secured bond while Sullivan was held without bond.
