A Woodbridge man was jailed Thursday after deputies learned his true identity and discovered he had numerous outstanding warrants.

On October 26th at 12:07 a.m. Deputy B.E. Vaughn and Deputy A.T. Leckemby responded to the area of Sheehy Toyota on Garrisonville Road for subjects attempting to enter vehicles on the lot. Deputies checked the area to be sure everything was above board.

Deputy Vaughn located Cornell Boat, 33, nearby and launched an investigation. Boat attempted to use a fictitious name, but the lie was quickly uncovered. He had provided the false information due to numerous outstanding warrants. Additionally deputies discovered a suspected controlled substance in Boat’s hand which he attempted to cast off into his pocket. The suspect must have had a sinking feeling when Deputy Vaughn was able to salvage the item to be shipped to the lab for analysis.

Boat was charged with possession of a controlled substance and identity theft and served with the four outstanding warrants. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
