A 42-year-old Spotsylvania man was charged late Sunday afternoon after nearly causing a deputy to crash.

On October 22nd at approximately 7:41 p.m. Deputy A. De Hoyos was traveling on Ferry Road to respond to an unrelated call. While having the right of way at the intersection of Ferry Road and Town and Country Drive, a vehicle pulled out in front of Deputy De Hoyos. Deputy De Hoyos had to slam on the brakes in order to prevent a collision.

Having witnessed the traffic violation, Deputy De Hoyos conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver had clear signs of being intoxicated, and admitted to consuming beer and Bacardi while watching football. There was also an open bottle of Bud Light and a bottle of Tito’s Vodka located in plain sight. The driver was discovered to have a revoked license due to a prior DUI incident.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, driving while suspended, and failure to yield to the right of way. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
