A high speed pursuit through North Stafford this morning resulted in the arrest of a driver and passenger.

On April 30th at 12:36 a.m. Deputy J.D. Hurt observed a grey Honda sedan with improper exhaust at the intersection of Greenspring Drive and Mine Road. The driver had stopped well short of the stop bar for the traffic light.

As Deputy Hurt turned around to follow the Honda, the driver accelerated rapidly onto Mine Road reaching speeds over 80 mph. Deputy Hurt activated his emergency equipment and a pursuit ensued onto North Hampton Boulevard.

The suspect passed other vehicles on the double yellow and proceeded through several stop signs without stopping. The pursuit continued to Hampton Park Road, to a left on Parkway Boulevard and then a left on Flatford Road. The suspect went straight across Winding Creek Road, through the 4-way-stop, and onto Walpole Street, before crossing Courthouse Road to Monument Drive.

On Monument Drive the suspect attempted to turn around and rolled into the ditch. As he attempted to get out of the ditch, Deputy Hurt made intentional vehicle contact to successfully end the pursuit.

Deputy S.C. Jett and Deputy E.T. Osborn arrived to assist and conducted a high risk stop, ordering the driver and passenger out of the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Michael Weathers, 23, of Stafford. He was charged with felony eluding, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, 5 counts of disregarding a stop sign, 2 counts of passing on the double yellow and the improper exhaust. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The 18-year-old male passenger was charged with public intoxication, underage possession of alcohol and underage possession of tobacco. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 bond.
