Having déjà vu? You aren’t the only one. A Richmond man obviously didn’t read yesterday’s pursuit report that occurred on Warrenton Road, considering he did the exact same thing.

On April 26th at approximately 12:50 a.m. Deputy J.D. Hurt responded to Circle K, located at 34 Prosperity Lane, for a report of a suspicious person. The caller advised the suspect was pretending to pump gas for approximately 30 minutes. Deputy Hurt responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle on Garrisonville Road heading towards I-95 South.

Deputy Hurt observed the vehicle drifting as it traveled on Southbound 95. The vehicle then began following too closely behind a semitruck. Deputy Hurt activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop. The driver had different plans, and initiated a pursuit to Warrenton Road.

Once on Warrenton Road, Deputy Hurt was able to get the vehicle to stop near South Gateway Drive, but only for a few seconds. The vehicle proceeded to drive through the grass median towards Panera Bread. The driver must have wanted one of their signature sandwiches, for he stopped the pursuit in the parking lot of the restaurant. Deputy Hurt was able to get the suspect detained without incident.

As you can deduce from the title of this chronicle, the driver showed signs of being impaired. After field sobriety tests, he was arrested and transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail. The driver was charged with driving under the influence, misdemeanor eluding, as well as, following too closely. He was held until sober.
