A Stafford man was jailed for bringing harm to his ex-partner, only to be released and do it again two days later. Luckily, the quick actions of deputies prevented further injuries to the victim.

On April 15th at approximately 4:11 p.m. Deputy J.D. Hurt responded to a call of a disturbance on Erin Drive. It was advised a man was attempting to break into the residence with a sledgehammer. Deputy Hurt quickly arrived on scene and observed a man using his fists in an attempt to break down the door. Deputy Hurt was able to detain the man and identify him as Martin Cauble, 40. Cauble advised he was there to specifically assault the victim. There was minimal damage to a door and fence, as well as, a sledgehammer was found at the scene.

It was discovered Cauble used to live at the residence before a verbal argument on April 14th. Cauble left on his own accord that night, only to return on April 15th. Cauble demanded the victim exit the residence so he could assault her. She did not comply and Cauble attempted to enter the residence by force. Cauble was charged with attempted breaking and entering to commit assault with a deadly weapon, domestic assault and battery, as well as, driving while revoked. He was also served on an emergency protective order and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,500 secured bond.

On April 17th at approximately 8:03 a.m. deputies responded back to Erin Drive for a call of a disturbance involving Cauble. Witnesses advised Cauble was back at the residence despite the emergency protective order. He attempted to break down one of the doors using a claw hammer, but broke the hammer instead. He then entered through a window. Once inside, Cauble locked the doors, declared this was a hostage situation, and assaulted the victim. Witnesses also heard him state he was “gonna kill you and everyone else” to the victim.

Sergeant A.I. Assur and Deputy T.M. Givler were first to arrive on scene as the assault was still occurring. Realizing the current threat, Sergeant Assur acted quickly and breached the door using his department issued sledgehammer. Deputies were able to put Cauble into handcuffs once again.

Cauble was once again taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail where he was charged with breaking and entering, domestic assault and battery, abduction, violating a protective order, two counts of destruction of property, as well as, driving while revoked. This time, he was held without bond.
