A 19-year-old earned six charges after drinking and driving with a minor in South Stafford.

On April 4th at approximately 10:40 p.m. Deputy B.M. Taylor was traveling behind a vehicle on Warrenton Road in the area of Solomon Drive. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated to 90 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. It appeared the vehicle was attempting to get away from Deputy Taylor; however, Deputy Taylor does not give up that easy. Deputy Taylor caught up to the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. While the driver had just made a rather poor decision, he made the wise one to pull over.

Deputy Taylor made contact with the driver, a 19-year-old Stafford man, and the 17-year-old passenger. As soon as the driver rolled down the window, Deputy Taylor was struck with the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage. The odor was coming not only from the driver and passenger, but the multitude of open cans of beer in plain view.

The driver was uncooperative with deputies, and eventually was removed from the vehicle. Despite having slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, open cans of beer in the vehicle, and the overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage coming directly from his breath, he denied consuming alcohol. It was discovered he also had no driver’s license.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15% and .2% with a child present, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, driving without a license, reckless speed, drinking while driving, and finally, contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. The intoxicated passenger was released to a guardian.
