A Mississippi man was charged yesterday after deputies noticed him parked in a rather unusual parking spot.

On February 23rd at approximately 3:13 a.m. Deputy S.C. Jett was traveling on Mine Road when he observed a Dodge Charger off the road. Deputy Jett made his way towards the vehicle as the man standing next to the vehicle quickly got back into the driver’s seat. The Charger then charged up and the driver revved the engine. It appeared the driver was attempting to flee.

His attempts to flee were futile for the vehicle was completely stuck. No pursuit this time. After the driver gave up on that front, Deputy Jett made contact with him. The driver had glassy bloodshot eyes and an extreme odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. When Deputy Jett asked how long ago he had consumed alcohol, the driver advised “I don’t know. Maybe three or four glasses”.

Due to the level of intoxication and the driver admitting to drinking a few glasses ago, Deputy Jett attempted to place the man under arrest. The driver immediately began resisting as more deputies responded to assist. OC spray was deployed in order to regain control of the resisting man. After a brief struggle, deputies were able to place the driver in handcuffs.

Deputy Jett transported the driver to Rappahannock Regional Jail in a rather peaceful ride considering the driver fell asleep and began snoring on the way. After his nap, the driver apologized multiple times for his behavior. The driver was charged with driving under the influence, obstruction of justice with force, as well as, failure to maintain control of his vehicle. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,000 secured bond.

Great work to Deputy Jett for getting another drunk driver off of Stafford’s roads and ditches.
