Repeat Drunk Driver Detained

A Stafford woman made the decision to not drive sober and got pulled over. Luckily for her, her next destination was only a hop, skip, and jump away.

On February 2nd at approximately 6:35 p.m. Deputy E.R. Houde was traveling Southbound on Richmond Highway. While doing so, Deputy Houde observed a vehicle traveling without any lights on and failing to maintain the lane of travel. Deputy Houde initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over in front of a building well known to law enforcement, the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

When Deputy Houde made contact with the driver, he was immediately struck with the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. The driver was asked for her driver’s license, which she did not have, and it was determined to be revoked.

Deputy Houde placed the driver under arrest and searched the vehicle. Two empty mini bottles of Jim Bean were located in the center console. When it came time to transport her to Rappahannock Regional Jail, Deputy Houde was able to save on gas considering they were parked right in front of the jail.

After the extremely short trip, the driver was charged with driving under the influence third offense in five years, refusal second offense, driving after forfeiture of license, the traffic lane violation, driving while revoked, as well as, driving with no lights. She was held without bond. Great work to Deputy Houde for removing a repeat DUI driver off our roads.
