Eluding Arrest

When two Honda off-road dirt bikes were being operated on the roadway in South Stafford yesterday, deputies knew it was their Civic duty to stop them. Unfortunately, the motorcyclists did not stop on their own Accord and fled into the woods. The Odyssey to find them did not require a drone Pilot.

On January 28th at 3:30 p.m. Deputy C.R. Szentkuti observed two off-road motorcycles being operated on Warrenton Road near Olde Forge. As he attempted to make a traffic stop, the motorcyclists fled into Olde Forge and onto a dirt trail.

Did we give up? Of course not. Deputy Szentkuti, Deputy B.W. Gildea and Deputy C.D. Sullivan were unable to go off-road to locate the suspects, but they were not “two” tired to canvas the area. With the assistance of residents in the area, a 28-year-old King George man was located on Shaw Court and identified as one of the riders. He provided excuses of trying to “have fun” and being “scared.” The suspect was charged with eluding and driving an ATV on a roadway. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $500 bond.

The arrest of the first suspect led deputies to the second suspect in Grafton Village. The second rider was identified as an 18-year-old Stafford man. This suspect was charged with eluding, driving revoked, and ATV on a roadway. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 bond.
