Animal Cruelty Investigation

Unfortunately, Animal Control responded to a rather unsettling report in North Stafford last week that may result in criminal charges.

On January 19th, at approximately 10:12 a.m. Deputy K.L. Busch received a call for possible animal cruelty. The caller advised there were three dogs living in extremely poor conditions and described them as “skin and bones,”. As Deputy Busch responded to the residence, the caller advised one of the dogs had died.

When Deputy Busch arrived on scene, she was able to evaluate the two living dogs. Each dog was under weight and had the strong odor of urine and feces emanating from them. Due to the unhealthy state of the dogs, they were seized and transported to the veterinarian for evaluation. The remains of the third dog were seized for a necropsy. After completing a search warrant affidavit, Deputy Busch searched the residence to observe the living conditions. There were multiple piles of feces on the ground.

On January 25th, a hearing was conducted do decide if the owners could have their dogs back. The judge ruled they could not and the dogs needed to remain in the care of the animal shelter. The owners can appeal the decision within ten days; however, if they do not, both dogs will be up for adoption.

It is not all bad news; Deputy Busch is happy to report both dogs are currently doing well. Bulliet, the beagle, and Mimosa, the Pomeranian, are starting to gain weight again. Both dogs are currently in good spirits and are receiving the best care. This is an ongoing investigation and we will update you on the status on both Bulliet and Mimosa.
