A Woodbridge man faces numerous charges after deciding to drink and drive and assaulting a deputy during the arrest.

On December 30th, at approximately 9:41 p.m. deputies responded to a call of a disturbance at McDonalds located at 44 Stanstead Road. An employee asked a man to leave after noticing he was intoxicated. The man was not loving that and threatened the employee prior to leaving. The employee advised the man drove across the street to Wawa located a 9 South Gateway Drive.

Deputies arrived at Wawa and located the suspect still within his vehicle. The driver, Emmanuel Koiwood, 36, had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. It was also discovered Koiwood’s license was suspended.

Koiwood became very uncooperative and began yelling towards citizens nearby as deputies attempted to have him exit the vehicle. Deputies were able to get him out of the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. As deputies escorted Koiwood to a patrol vehicle, Koiwood headbutted a deputy in the head to add an additional charge to his growing list.

Koiwood was charged with driving under the influence, driving while suspended, refusal, disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice and assault on law enforcement. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
