A Quantico man will have the three day weekend in jail to think about his behavior during his arrest for DUI last night.

On November 10th at 8:34 p.m. Deputy R.L. Beasley responded to an auto accident in the 200 block of Garrisonville Road. The investigation revealed Martin Loya, 23, had sideswiped another vehicle while traveling southbound on Garrisonville Road. There were no injuries in the accident.

Deputy Beasley noticed Loya had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was stumbling at the scene. Loya was arrested for DUI and although he claimed he had not been drinking, the breath test would prove otherwise.

During the breath test process at the Ford T. Humphrey Public Safety Building, Loya became irate and began screaming profanity. Deputy B.W. Gildea was down the hall and responded to the booking area to ensure there wasn’t a problem. As Deputy Gildea inquired if everything was okay, Loya expectorated at the deputy, but thankfully the spittle fell short of the target. Loya, who was still handcuffed, proceeded to leap from the bench he was sitting on and charged at the deputy for what appeared to be a body slam. Deputy Gildea fended off the attack and Loya was secured to the bench with a second set of handcuffs.

Loya was ultimately charged with DUI with an elevated blood alcohol content between .15 and .20, attempted assault and battery on law enforcement, obstruction and failing to maintain the traffic lane. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
