A Stafford man learned firsthand that the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office does not give up in their pursuit of justice. The teamwork between numerous deputies and the community led to the arrest of a suspect in a violent assault and theft of a firearm in South Stafford yesterday morning.

On October 12th, at approximately 8:58 a.m. deputies responded to the England Run neighborhood after a call for a domestic assault and battery. The caller advised Kyle Cobb, 29, stole their vehicle and firearm. Sergeant A.I. Assur was able to locate Cobb in the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him on Alex Court. Cobb exited the stolen vehicle and fled into the woods, but not before Sergeant Assur’s dash camera captured his picture.

Sergeant Assur distributed the picture of the suspect to responding deputies. Numerous deputies, including the drone team, detectives and K-9 units descended on the scene and canvassed the area. Out of an abundance of caution, Gayle Middle School was placed on a lockdown. A short time later, deputies received a call from a witness advising someone was attempting to gain access to vehicles on Crossing Court.

As deputies approached Crossing Court, the caller advised the suspect had entered a pink and white Mercedes sedan. Deputy B.W. Gildea observed the conspicuously colored Mercedes in motion and recognized Cobb in the passenger seat. Deputy Gildea stopped the Mercedes, but Cobb exited the vehicle and again fled on foot into the wood line. Cobb ran through the woods, right into the waiting duo of Lieutenant G.F. Hernandez and Major C.S. Kimmitz who ordered Cobb to the ground. Cobb was taking into custody without further incident.

Cobb was charged with assault and battery, strangulation, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, brandishing a firearm, weapon possession by a felon, and fleeing from law enforcement. If you did not already guess, Cobb was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. The driver of the Mercedes was unaware of the situation and was released.
