A Chesterfield man has been charged with murder after a shooting this afternoon in a South Stafford subdivision.

At 1:49 p.m. deputies responded to a shooting on Crescent Valley Drive. The victim, Aliyah Henderson, 19, of Stafford, was discovered in the home with a gunshot wound. Medics with Stafford County Fire and Rescue confirmed Henderson had succumbed to her wound at the scene. Trevon Vanzant, 21, who has a child in common with Henderson, the one-year old child and another family member of Henderson were in the home at the time of the shooting, but not injured. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Detectives N.D. Ridings was assigned the investigation and determined Vanzant had shot Henderson during a dispute.

Vanzant has been charged with second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has been held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

This is an ongoing investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Ms. Henderson.
