A Maryland man received multiple charges after drinking and driving for the third time.

On August 13th, at approximately 10:50 p.m. First Sergeant D.F. Purcell was traveling North on Richmond Highway near Hospital Center Boulevard. First Sergeant Purcell observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel multiple times and nearly caused an accident. First Sergeant Purcell initiated a traffic stop.

Before First Sergeant Purcell could reach the vehicle, he noticed the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. The driver, Erick Garcia Castillo, 33, had glassy, bloodshot eyes and appeared very lethargic. Castillo was uncooperative and would not listen to First Sergeant Purcell. Once Castillo was out of the vehicle, he stated he did not have a driver’s license since it was suspended. First Sergeant Purcell inquired as to what Castillo ’s name and date of birth were, and Castillo provided fictitious information.

Deputy E.R. Houde arrived on scene at this time. Deputy Houde noted the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage from ten feet away. Deputies were given consent to search the vehicle and in doing so they discovered a debit card with Castillo ’s real name on it. Deputies would ask for Castillo ’s date of birth two more times before finally Castillo informed them as to who he was. Castillo had active warrants in Stafford County for domestic assault and a revoked license due to driving under the influence. This was Castillo ’s third driving under the influence offense.

Castillo was served on his active warrants, and additionally charged with driving under the influence third offense in ten years, driving after forfeiting his license, falsely identifying himself to law enforcement, identity fraud, driving with a revoked license, traffic lane violation, two counts of refusal, and expired inspection. Castillo was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
