A pursuit in South Stafford last night ended with a crash and the suspect’s arrest for numerous charges.

On June 5th at 9:11 p.m. Deputy T.A. Vasquez responded to assist with reckless drivers racing on Kings Highway. On Cool Springs Road he observed a white Honda CRV travelling 65 mph in the posted 45 mph zone headed toward Butler Road.

Deputy Vasquez got behind the Honda and attempted a traffic stop at Butler Road near Winterberry Drive. Instead of stopping, the suspect accelerated to 64 mph in the posted 35 mph zone and passed several cars on a curve, initiating a pursuit.

The pursuit lasted only four tenths of a mile, as the suspect ran into the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado stopped at the traffic signal at Cambridge Street. There were no injuries in the crash.

The driver of the CRV was identified as Jefferson Melendez Duran, 19, of Sterling. He was arrested for driving after illegally consuming alcohol, underage possession of alcohol, eluding, reckless by speed, reckless passing on a curve, reckless improper brakes, no license and a learner’s permit violation. Melendez Duran was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.

An uncooperative, intoxicated passenger in the CRV was identified as Franmi de la Cruz Gonzalez, 21, of Manassas. Sergeant J.T. Forman arrested Gonzalez for public intoxication, obstruction and concealed weapon, as a knife was located near his seat. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 bond.
