A stolen vehicle was recovered Friday morning after the Stafford County Emergency Communications Center fielded a call about a reckless driver in North Stafford.

On May 27th at 10:24 a.m. Deputy F.A. Martinez responded to a reckless driver complaint on Garrisonville Road for a Kia Soul. The caller provided a vehicle tag for the reckless driver that was entered as stolen from Prince William County.

Deputy Martinez located the suspect vehicle in the area of Vista Woods, but before he could activate his emergency equipment, the driver stopped on his own and exited the Kia Soul. The driver was identified as Matthew Garcia, 33, of Stafford.

Garcia was found to be wanted in Prince William for violation of a condition of release and he had a revoked driver’s license. The vehicle tags were stolen from Prince William and the vehicle returned stolen from Richmond.

Deputies determined Garcia had “acquired” the vehicle from a relative in another jurisdiction, who is now the suspect in the theft of the Kia. Garcia was served the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving revoked. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
