A Stafford man was arrested yesterday evening after driving recklessly and attempting to elude deputies in South Stafford.

On May 29th at 7:38 p.m. Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen observed a Lincoln pickup traveling southbound on U.S. 1 near Centreport Parkway at 78 mph. He activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop and the Lincoln turned onto Enon Road at a high rate of speed.

Sgt. Jacobeen briefly lost sight of the truck as it made a left turn onto Porter Lane. However, as Sgt. Jacobeen approached Porter Lane, he found the truck abandoned in a driveway. Numerous dogs were barking toward the rear of a home and the suspect was found lying in the grass of a backyard.

The suspect was detained and identified as Edward Normanyo, 39. Normanyo was charged with reckless driving, eluding, obstruction and driving suspended. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
