A suspect currently awaiting trial for a murder charge added to his troubles when he assaulted another inmate while waiting for a court hearing in a holding cell.

On April 14th at 10:30 a.m. Deputy T.K. Phillips was in the holding cell area for the Stafford General District Court when she witnessed an assault. Tarik Shiggs, 22, had grabbed another inmate in the holding cell and struck him repeatedly. Deputy C.E. Whited responded to assist and when Shiggs realized a taser was about to be deployed, he complied with orders to surrender.

The other inmate was treated for minor injuries and was unable to offer any explanation for Shiggs' aggression.

Shiggs was charged with assault and battery and continues to be held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Shiggs was charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the February 21st murder in Garrison Woods.
