A strange phone number on a cell phone call to our evidence technician was not a car warranty expiration notice, but an actual medical emergency. On March 24th at 11:22 a.m. Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Room Technician Kelly Stevenson was checking in evidence when her cell phone alerted with a number she did not recognize. When she answered the call, an elderly man was reporting a medical emergency at his home in South Stafford. Deputy T.N. Epple was assisting in the evidence room and helped obtain vital information to relay to first responders in that area. Deputy A.W. Sypolt and members of Stafford Fire and Rescue responded to the home and found the man had fallen from his bed and was wedged against the wall. Fortunately, he had his cell phone and was able to dial a phone number that worked. He was trying to dial a family member, but ended up calling an unrelated Sheriff’s Office employee. The man was transported by medics with non-life-threatening injuries. In a situation like this, you can always call 911 and that will allow communications officers to pinpoint your location. Big thank you to our staff for making sure this man got the help he needed. |
