A wanted man got a couple extra days of freedom after fleeing a traffic stop, but found out the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office does not give up.

On March 6th at 8:44 p.m. Sgt. K.P. Lytle, Jr. stopped a vehicle at Centreport Parkway and Chestnut Hill Drive after the driver passed through a stop sign without stopping. The traffic stop started well as the driver explained he wasn’t paying attention and provided his driver’s license to the deputy.

As Sgt. Lytle was back in his patrol car to write the summons, the driver suddenly became an Olympic sprinter and scampered into the wood line. Besides one stumble in a ditch, he showed excellent form. There were other occupants in the vehicle, so Sgt. Lytle could not immediately give chase. Furthermore, the driver had provided his valid license, so we had a good idea who we were looking for.

The suspect was identified as Brian Brandrup, 39, of Spotsylvania. A quick check in a law enforcement database revealed eight active warrants in Stafford, Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg, most for failure to appear.

Drone and K-9 operations were unsuccessful that night, but you know we do not give up. Sgt. Lytle obtained warrants for obstruction and the traffic violation and deputies continued to pursue leads this week.

Just before 8 a.m. this morning, deputies located Brandrup in a home on Ramoth Church Road. He was arrested and is currently in the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
