Alzheimer’s Patient Assisted

After responding to several high risk calls this morning, deputies were able to determine there was no crime and they were able to get an Alzheimer’s patient treatment.

This morning at 3:21 a.m. deputies responded to the lobby of the Rappahannock Regional Jail after a man in his 60’s came in to report a crime. The man told jail staff he witnessed a murder, but fled in a red Ford Focus before deputies arrived. Deputies canvassed the area, but could not locate the subject.

At 3:35 a.m. deputies responded to a disturbance with a weapon on Campus Drive, in the apartment complex just north of the jail. A caller reported a male had come to his door and said his wife had threatened him with a gun and locked him out of his apartment. Deputies determined it was the same man that had been at the jail trying to report a murder. Unfortunately, the male had again vanished before deputies arrived.

Deputies continued to check the area and got a break when a resident in Country Ridge/Oak Ridge subdivision called. The resident reported a man had knocked on her door and just left in a red Ford Focus. The male and vehicle matched the description from the first two incidents.

Sergeant J.W. Hutcheson, Deputy B.M. Taylor and Deputy C.T. Richardson were able to stop the vehicle nearby and identify the man. It was determined there was no emergency or crime and the man suffered from Alzheimer’s. The man was turned over to Mary Washington Hospital for care. Adult Protective Services and Veterans Affairs are both involved to assist the man. Thank you to everyone that played a role in getting this man the help he needed.
