An illegal U-turn took a “turn” for the worse, as the suspect attempted to elude deputies, but was ultimately arrested and jailed without bond.

This morning at 8:51 a.m. Deputy B.W. Gildea attempted to stop a black Chevy Tahoe making an illegal U-turn at Warrenton Road and Olde Forge Drive. Instead of realizing he was in Stafford County and stopping, the Tahoe driver initiated a pursuit, continuing onto I-95 North. The suspect continued at a speed near the 65 mph speed limit.

Additional deputies were prepared further ahead on the Interstate with tire deflation devices, but the suspect exited onto Centreport Parkway. Sergeant J.J. Kreider and Deputy Z.C. Smith joined the pursuit as the suspect made a left onto Centreport Parkway and accelerated to over 70 mph.

The suspect decided to get back on the Intestate and opted for the I-95 South ramp from Centreport Parkway. The trio of deputies seized this opportunity to execute the perfect rolling road block and stop the suspect, without damaging any of the vehicles. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect has been identified as Ray Posey, Jr. 62, of Woodbridge. There was a juvenile relative in the vehicle during the incident. That juvenile was released to his school at his parent’s request. Deputies discovered a suspected controlled substance in the vehicle and determined Posey’s license was suspended.

Posey has been charged with eluding, child neglect, possession of a controlled substance, driving suspended and the U-turn violation. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
