The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit and detectives are investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday evening in North Stafford.

On February 19th at 8:27 p.m. deputies and fire and rescue personnel responded to a motor vehicle accident on Garrisonville Road, just east of the Shelton Shop Road intersection. The initial investigation revealed a Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Garrisonville Road when the driver lost traction, went sideways and struck the raised concrete median separating the east and westbound lanes of Garrisonville Road.

The Dodge went broadside over the median into the westbound travel lane of Garrisonville Road, directly in the path of a marked Ford Taurus patrol car. The deputy in the patrol car was not responding to an emergency and had no time to react to the vehicle entering his lane of travel.

Several witnesses stopped to provide assistance. Although injured, the deputy also went to check on the other driver. Fire and rescue transported both drivers to the hospital for their injuries. The deputy was later released from the hospital.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Dodge succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Enrique Rodriguez Guevara, 24, of Stafford. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the witnesses that stopped to provide assistance. We also thank our partners at Stafford County Fire and Rescue and Mary Washington Hospital for their care to our deputy and the other driver.

This is an ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
