A hit and run driver is behind bars after an alert resident provided valuable information to responding deputies.

On February 15th at 11:14 p.m. Deputy E.T. Osborn responded to a hit and run accident on Cliff Circle. The victim reported a neighbor woke her up and explained her unoccupied car had just been struck by a hit and run driver. The victim noticed significant damage to her Toyota Corolla.

Meanwhile, at about the same time, the Emergency Communications Center received a call for a reckless driver travelling westbound on Garrisonville Road near Onville Road. The witness reported the reckless driver had nearly struck her and was being driven at a high rate of speed. While it couldn’t have been nearly as nice as the FredNats 4th of July Spectacular firework display, the witness relayed the reckless driver was also emitting a trail of sparks from a severely damaged rim.

The witness continued to provide updates on the reckless driver’s location and Deputy J.D. Hurt located the vehicle on Zoe Way. The driver was identified as Byron Chua Alvarado, 32, of Stafford- and more specifically the same street as the hit and run accident.

We did not need K-9 Titan to crack this case and Chua Alvarado acknowledged being on the phone, which led to the collision on Cliff Circle. He was charged with hit and run and driving suspended. Chua Alvarado was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Thank you to the resident for providing updated location information on the suspect vehicle.
