An intoxicated driver was arrested yesterday afternoon after a witness observed him failing to maintain the lane of travel and strike another vehicle.

On January 29th at 2:21 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a possible hit and run accident near Solomon Drive and Warrenton Road. An alert bystander reported a driver was unable to maintain the lane of travel and had struck mirrors with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The suspect’s location was updated by the eyewitness as he turned into the parking lot of 271 Warrenton Road.

Sgt. A.J. McCall made contact with the driver and detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. Deputy B.W. Gildea responded and identified the driver as Nilso Estrada Cabrera, 35, of Laurel, Maryland. Field sobriety tests were offered and he was arrested.

Estrada Cabrera was charged with DUI and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober. Thank you to the witness for helping keep our roads safe. The driver of the vehicle that was struck has not reported the incident to law enforcement, so there is no hit and run charge.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
