On September 27 at 11:05 p.m., deputies responded to the 100 block of Bonair Street for a report of a fight. Upon arrival, a deputy saw a male, later identified as Matthew Rodriguez, in an altercation with family members and observed him throw a backpack at a female victim. The backpack struck the victim in the shoulder.

Rodriguez became disorderly and was separated from the group by Deputy A.J. Deasy. While being detained, he resisted and struck a deputy twice. Rodriguez continued to resist arrest and a taser was utilized before he was successfully taken into custody by Deputy Deasy and Deputy S.A. Fulford. Matthew Rodriguez, a 26-year-old resident of Fredericksburg, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, assault and battery on a family member, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, and drunk in public. Rodriguez was booked into the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.
