Stafford, VA. A wanted suspect was arrested late Wednesday night by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect subsequently assaulted a deputy while attempting to escape.

On May 6, 2020, at approximately 11:17 p.m., Deputy S.C. Martin responded to the Foxwood Village neighborhood to serve three active warrants on a suspect identified as Silvano Avelar Castro, 21, of Stafford. The suspect was wanted for failure to appear and resisting arrest by flight.

When deputies arrived at the residence located on Susan Street, the suspect was observed inside the trailer. He attempted to flee out the back door, but was taken into custody by Deputy Connelly.

As they walked towards the cruiser, the suspect managed to forcefully kick Deputy Connelly in the knee. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. Deputy Hurt and Deputy Taylor gave chase and were able to apprehend the suspect.

Deputy Connelly sustained an injury as a result of the assault and was later treated at a local hospital and released.

The suspect was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond on his outstanding warrants. He received additional charges of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and escape with force by prisoner.
