Since December 2019, there have been approximately seven reports of thefts of catalytic converters throughout Stafford County. The thefts occurred at all times of the day and night; however, most were between 1:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. It only takes a few minutes for thieves to cut and remove the catalytic converters, which are normally sold to scrap yards for cash. Once removed and after the vehicle is started, it will have a noticeably louder sound.

If you notice any suspicious activity, immediately contact the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 658-4400.
