August 20, 2019

Stafford VA. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting strict traffic light enforcement on Garrisonville Road due to recent complaints regarding vehicles running red lights.

Deputies will be conducting enhanced enforcement operations throughout the county in an effort to make our local roadways safer.

We would like to remind the community that motorists who are convicted of running a red light could face a $350.00 fine along with 4 demerit points on their driver’s licenses. Learn more about the consequences of failing to obey a traffic light here:

https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title46.2/chapter8/section46.2-833

We’d also like to share a few facts you may not know about red-light running:

1. In the last decade, red-light running crashes killed nearly 9,000 people.
2. Half of the people killed by red-light runners are not the signal violators—they are passengers, other motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.
3. Nearly 93 percent of drivers believe running a red light is unacceptable; yet, 1 in 3 drivers reported doing so in the past 30 days.

We care about the safety of our community and we want to hear from you. If you see an intersection where people are running red lights or know of a stretch of road that’s a favorite for speeders, please provide that information to us at (540) 658-4400.
