Stafford, VA. A suspect was arrested on Saturday after assaulting several units with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office following a domestic incident in the parking lot of the Rappahannock Regional Jail located at 1745 Jefferson Davis Highway.

On June 1, 2019, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Deputy Connelly and Deputy Dominguez responded to reports of a male subject and a female subject arguing in the parking lot of the jail. Upon arrival, Deputy Connelly made contact with the male subject who was identified as Zachary Bartley, 34, of Spotsylvania.

The subject exited the driver’s seat of his vehicle and immediately became combative. Additional units then arrived on scene. Bartley was placed in handcuffs after he continued to yell at the female subject and law enforcement. The uncooperative behavior continued and he began using obscene and threatening language.

The suspect then dropped to the ground and began rolling around and kicking Deputy Connelly and Sergeant Reed. They attempted to place him in the car, but he continued to resist.

Once inside the jail, the suspect’s combative behavior continued and he attempted to bite a first sergeant. Deputy Connelly and Sergeant Reed received minor injuries as a result of the altercation with the suspect.

Bartley was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail and charged with eight counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.
