Body of Missing Person Found in the Rappahannock River

Stafford, VA. The body of a missing male subject was found in the Rappahannock River late on Thursday night. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident.

On March 14, 2019, at approximately 10:58 p.m., units responded to reports of a body found in the Rappahannock River. Two fishermen had observed what appeared to be a body floating in the river near the Little Falls boat ramp, and immediately reported it to law enforcement.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office and Stafford County Fire and Rescue located the body and removed it from the river. The body was later identified as Jacob David Butterfield, 23, who was last seen in the City of Fredericksburg on January 25, 2019. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The incident remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide updates as the investigation unfolds.
