Stafford, VA. A suspect was arrested for driving under the influence early on Tuesday by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office following a pursuit in the southern end of the county.

On January 1, 2019, at approximately 1:19 a.m., Lt. Truslow responded to reports of a reckless driver in the area of 620 Cambridge Street. Several callers reported observing a vehicle driving erratically in the FasMart parking lot.

On the way to that location, Lt. Truslow located the suspect vehicle speeding in the area of 501 Cambridge Street. He subsequently activated his emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed.

Lt. Truslow terminated the pursuit at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Warrenton Road due to the volume of traffic in the area. The suspect vehicle then sped through a red light and crashed into a stone wall. The driver, who was identified as Daniel Steele, 23, of Alexandria was removed from the vehicle. The lieutenant detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the suspect and a preliminary breath test was administered.

Steele was taken into custody and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3000.00 unsecured bond. He is charged with driving under the influence, felony eluding, and failure to obey a red light.
