Stafford, VA. An armed male suspect who barricaded himself in a residence last night in the Hartwood area of the county has been taken into custody.

On November 30, 2018, at approximately 7:09 p.m., deputies responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on the 100 block of Empress Alexandra Place. Upon arrival, deputies learned there was an armed male subject barricaded inside who was intermittently firing a weapon. After the initial shot was fired, family members in the home left the residence and called the Sheriff’s Office. No one was injured.

The subject was identified as Brandon Hunt, 35, of Fredericksburg. The SWAT team, drone team, K9 units, and negotiators subsequently responded to the scene. Over the next several hours, the subject continued to intermittently fire his weapon and move around the house as Sheriff’s Office personnel attempted negotiations.

The Sheriff’s Office crisis negotiators spent hours working to resolve the tense and life-threatening standoff without loss of life. At approximately 3:30 a.m., the subject surrendered and was taken into custody without incident after chemical agents were deployed into the residence.

Hunt is charged with attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, and reckless handling of a firearm. He is incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

We would like to thank the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office for their assistance during the barricade.

The incident remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
