Stafford, VA. A suspect behind multiple larcenies from vehicles was taken into custody on Sunday morning by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. On November 18, 2018, at approximately 5:45 a.m., multiple units responded to reports of a suspicious person rummaging through vehicles with a flashlight in the area of Limestone Way. A witness approached Deputy Hutcheson and told him that the suspect asked him for a ride to England Run apartments. Shortly thereafter, Deputy Dupree stopped a vehicle in the area of Shasta Place and Newcastle Place after observing a passenger matching the suspect’s description. The passenger then jumped out of the vehicle and fled behind an apartment building. Deputy Dupree, Detective Parsons, and 1st Sergeant Barley subsequently located and detained the suspect. James Mimis Jr., 20, of Dale City was taken into custody and admitted to breaking into several vehicles. A search of his person yielded a substance consistent with marijuana in a plastic bag in his hat. Deputies then learned the suspect was wanted out of Prince William County. Mimis was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond on the outstanding felony warrants. He was also charged with tampering with vehicles, possession of marijuana, and obstruction of justice. Several residents of Limestone Way subsequently contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report items missing from their vehicles and damage, including shattered windows and a broken glove compartment handle. Several stolen items were located on the suspect’s person and in the area by deputies and returned to the owners. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to always remember to secure their vehicles and remove all valuables.
