Stafford, VA. Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect last Wednesday on charges of burglary and possession of marijuana.

On December 7, 2017 at 3:20 a.m., Stafford deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person at a residence in south Stafford. The residents informed the deputy that an unknown male wearing a robe entered their home while they were sleeping. The man identified himself as the residents’ neighbor and told them he was checking on them after hearing what he believed was the sound of a gunshot. The residents asked the man to leave and he complied with their request.

Deputies located the suspect, identified as Victor Merswin, 24, at a nearby residence and he admitted to entering the home without the owners’ permission. The suspect said he entered the residence out of concern for the neighbors after hearing what he believed to be the sound of a gunshot.

Deputies detected the odor of alcohol coming from Merswin. They also discovered a substance consistent with marijuana on the suspect. Throughout the encounter, the suspect was hostile and made numerous lewd comments to the deputies.

Merswin was arrested and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. He is charged with burglary and possession of marijuana.
