On Sunday September 3, 2017 at 9:42 AM, Stafford County Deputies were dispatched to Surry Lane for a fight call with shots fired. The caller advised that two males had been fighting and one had subsequently fired a shot from a handgun. One subject left the scene on a bicycle and the other in a small gold vehicle. A description of both subjects was given.

When deputies arrived on the scene, all was calm. In speaking with witnesses, they learned that a resident of the neighborhood and a subject by the name of Antawan Sampson were fighting out front of the townhouses. After the fight stopped, Antawan pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the ground. Deputies found a .40 caliber shell casing in a grassy area and a bullet fragment was located in the parking lot.
Antawan Sampson was soon located at an address on James Madison Court. He was taken into custody and the handgun used was recovered. He advised deputies he and another man got into an argument about a prior incident and it escalated into a fight. He observed an unknown object in the other man’s hand and drew his weapon from his holster. He then fired a round into the ground in order to scare the other participant.

Antawan Sampson, forty-three years old from South Stafford was charged with Brandishing, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm in Public and Shooting in a No Shoot Zone. He was held on a $1000.00 bond.
