September 5, 2017

On September 1, 2017 at approximately 6:10 AM, a citizen pulled up in front of a North Stafford day care facility to drop her children off. She did not lock her vehicle when she took them inside. As she exited the building, she noticed a male subject dressed all in black, quickly walk around the corner of the establishment. She entered her vehicle, and immediately realized her purse, cell phone and some other items were missing. She then drove around the area looking for the male subject she had noticed earlier. At the same time, she was calling the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim observed the suspicious male some distance away from the day care center and approached him. She asked if he was at the center a few minutes prior and he stated he was. She then requested he return there. The subject began walking toward the day care center but suddenly ran off in a different direction. At this time, Deputy Alex Layug arrived on scene and observed what was happening. He subsequently detained the subject.

Deputy Layug interviewed the suspect and he subsequently confessed to the theft. He told the deputy he left the victim’s property in a wooded area to the rear of a nearby shopping center. A K-9 was called to do an article search and located all of the victim’s property.
Arrested for the theft was twenty-one year old Travis C. Peters of North Stafford. He was charged with Grand Larceny, three counts of Credit Card Theft and Vehicle Tampering. He was incarcerated on $3500.00 bond.
