August 17, 2017

Signal will operate in flash mode starting Monday, Aug. 21 and will go into full operation on Wednesday, Aug. 23

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will activate a new traffic signal next week at the intersection of Route 630 (Courthouse Road) and Liberty Knolls Drive, which is one of the entrances to Colonial Forge High School in Stafford County.
The signal will first be placed in flash mode the morning of Monday, Aug. 21 for 48 hours.

The signal will go into full operation at approximately midday on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
New pavement markings and pedestrian crosswalks will be installed at the intersection.
The new traffic signal is part of a project to widen Courthouse Road from two to four lanes from Ramoth Church Road to Cedar Lane and reconfigure the I-95 Exit 140 interchange to a diverging diamond.

The $185.3 million project will reduce congestion in the corridor and accommodate future growth.

New Work Zone Speed Limit Starts Friday, Aug. 18.
VDOT is reducing the speed limit from 40 mph to 35 mph in the work zone of Courthouse Road from Ramoth Church Road to Cedar Lane for the safety of crew members and travelers, which will go into effect on Friday, Aug. 18.

The timing of the new traffic signal is based on the lower speed limit of 35 mph in the work zone.
The temporary speed limit will be enforced during construction, which is expected to be complete by July 2020.
