The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate an incident that occurred in western Stafford County near the Fauquier County line earlier this morning

At approximately 10:05 AM the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned citizen who had been contacted by a female who resides at a residence on Tackett’s Mill Road. The caller had received text messages from the female reporting that a male subject who lives at the residence had gotten angry and fired multiple shots into a vehicle on the property. Responding Deputies quickly arrived on scene and were informed by other witnesses in the area that they had also observed the male subject exit the residence and fire multiple rounds into the vehicle then walk back inside the house.

The shooting had stopped as Deputies worked to secure the immediate area surrounding the residence but the whereabouts of the shooter was unknown. Deputies were able to safely remove the female and her juvenile son from the residence. At this time, it was unclear as to whether the subject was still inside the residence or had fled on foot. Deputies were then able to make entry into the residence and it was confirmed that shooter was not inside. Additional Deputies were called to the property and immediately established a broad perimeter from Rockhill Church Road & Dunbar Drive to the Fauquier County Line.

A reverse 9-1-1 call was placed to the residents in the area alerting citizens to stay inside and to be on the lookout for a white male, in his 20’s with a beard, 5’10”, medium build, numerous tattoos, last seen wearing camouflage pants and hat. Several leads were phoned in and followed up. A manhunt was now underway for the subject as the Sheriff’s Office activated several of its Special Operations Teams, to include; K-9 Teams for multiple tracks, an unmanned aircraft system (drone) was launched, and the Special Weapons and Tactical Team (SWAT) was deployed.

The suspect was known by those in the residence as “Patrova.” He was known to own and carry multiple weapons and spent much time in the woods. It was soon discovered “Patrova” was an alias and Jeffrey Owens was the suspect’s true identity. Mr. Owens was also identified as a wanted felon with probation violations involving weapons.

At approximately 12:16 the UAS (drone) identified a subject walking the powerline and retreated back into the wood line in the area of Barrington Woods Blvd. SWAT Team Members converged on the location and the subject was taken into custody without further incident. Jeffrey Owens is charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm and Reckless Handling of a Firearm and is incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond.
