On May 15, 2017, a tragic shooting occurred at the Orange County residence of a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Recruit who is currently enrolled at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy. The recruit began his employment in December of 2016 and soon thereafter entered the regional academy. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
