On April 26, 2017, at approximately 7:30 PM, patrol units responded to an assault with a weapon in the area of Harpoon Drive. Deputy D.T. Aubrecht and Deputy L.A. Burgess made contact with the Aquia Harbour Police Officer at the scene. They were advised that a male subject had injuries to the face sustained by being struck with brass knuckles. The victim was being treated by rescue personnel.

While on the scene the deputies learned that the victim had been with the subject fishing that day. A dispute over money arose, and the victim was then assaulted. The victim supplied the name of the suspect, Nathaniel Schofield, and provided a description of Mr. Schofield’s vehicle. Patrol units soon located the vehicle parked at a residence on Coast Guard Drive.

Deputy Burgess made contact at the home and detained Mr. Schofield. A consent search was requested of the residence but was denied. Detective R. E. Firkin interviewed both the victim and the suspect; he also obtained a search warrant for the residence. Brass knuckles were located under a mattress in the Coast Guard Drive residence.

Nathaniel Scott Schofield, age 24 was charged with Felonious Assault and is incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond.
