Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff's Animal Control Office wants to remind pet owners to be prepared to provide for their animal's needs during inclement weather. When preparing for yourselves or your family remember your animals when purchasing food, bottles water and other supplies.
Bring animals indoors during inclement weather. If you are unable to bring your animal inside please remember that State and County laws require that you provide adequate shelter for your pet. Adequate shelter must have proper bedding and access to water as water maintains hydration levels which in turn can help animals stay warm. If you travel away from home be sure a plan is in place to take care of your animal in case you get stuck and cannot return home. Have a neighbor or friend on call who has agreed to take care of your pet's needs while you are gone.
To review State and County codes that indicate what is required of animal owners please refer to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office website at www.staffordfsheriff.com and click on Resources/Forms for code information.
