National Night Out 2008

The Stafford Sheriff's Office is very excited about this year's National Night Out events!  There are big things planned for this year, and we hope all of Stafford County get invovled. 

This is a unique crime awareness and prevention activity that is supported and sponsored by Sheriff Jett and the Stafford Sheriff’s Office. National Night Out is Tuesday, August 5, 2008.

This event is designed to:
• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
• Generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community relations
• Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 5:00pm until 10:00pm (or however long/short you wish) on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, residents are being asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. We are asking you to plan an event in your neighborhood, for example: pool party, BBQ, kids parades, poster contests, watermelon, ice cream social…be creative!

We will have a deputy at your event and McGruff will make a surprise visit!

If you are planning an event, please fill out the National Night Out Form and mail back in the self-addressed envelope provided or contact Andrea Bingler via email (abingler@co.stafford.va.us) or phone 540-658-4030.  WE MUST HAVE THIS INFORMATION TO ENSURE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD HAS A DEPUTY AT YOUR EVENT!

COMMUNITIES COMMITTED TO SAFETY

The theme "Communities Committed to Safety" is merely a suggested slogan to help advertise National Night Out events in your neighborhood.  Feel free to add your own twist to help promote the event this year!

EVENT FORMS

• NNO 2008 - Form: This form needs to be completed and returned to the Sheriff's Office to ensure that McGruff, Sheriff Jett, and deputies are at your NNO event. Please return this form NO LATER THAN June 13, 2008
• NNO 2008 Interest Letter: This is just a quick letter to you encouraging your participation this year
• National Night Out Party Ideas 2008: A list of event ideas to attract many different people and to have an exciting neighborhood event! Be creative, think outside the box!

EVENT IMAGES

• NNO 2008 (image): This is the 25th Anniversary Image for National Night Out 2008. Please feel free to use this in any of your advertisements!
• NNO 2008 Flyer (jpg): Use this image as a template for a flyer to advertise your NNO event and add the details of your event in the space provided!
• NNO 2008 Images (jpg): The entire image has various NNO logos that can be cut/pasted/cropped and added to your event information to help advertise NNO!

• Activity - Fortune Teller (pdf): Kids can create their own safety fortune teller. 
• Activity - Word Find (pdf): Kids can find safety words in the National Night Out special word find.
• Activity - Badges (pdf): Kids can color their very own badge and help make the neighborhood a safer place.
• E-vite Graphic (pdf): Use this graphic in publications/emails to invite people of your neighborhood to your event!  Make them aware of the day and the meaning!
• Invitation (pdf): Send this invitation to people in your neighborhood personally inviting them to attend National Night Out in your area!
• NNO Poster 11x17 (pdf): Print this informational poster to help advertise the event (Size is 11x17)
• NNO Poster 8.5x11 (pdf): Print this informational poster to help advertise the event (Size is 8.5x11, standard letter size poster).
• Sign-Up Sheet (pdf): This is an suggested "roster" list for your neighborhood.  Have this available at your event to encourage others to become informed!

DEADLINES

• The participation form (NNO 2008 - Form) needs to be submitted to the Sheriff's Office NO LATER THAN June 13, 2008!
• Sheriff's Office is submitting an event agenda in June to the NATW to begin the award process
• National Night Out - Tuesday, August 5, 2008!
• Sheriff's Office needs your help in getting feedback (including pictures) from your event to present a report to NATW for the NNO Award for Stafford County as a whole! Sheriff's Office will need your feedback no later than August 15, 2008.
