On January 12, 2016 the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond unveiled facial approximations of several unidentified people found dead in Virginia. The OCME collaborated with the FBI’s Forensic Imaging Unit and its Forensic Anthropology Services at Quantico, Virginia, to assist local law enforcement in identifying these individuals. FBI artists and anthropologists have developed these facial approximations of skulls that represent remains recovered in locations throughout Virginia. Two of the facial approximations were located in Stafford County and are being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with identifying these two individuals.

On September 25, 1990, the skull of an adolescent white male was found in a field off of Joshua Road in the Northwestern part of Stafford County. He is believed to have been 15-18 years of age at the time of death. The condition of the remains suggests that the male had been deceased for approximately 1-3 years prior to being found. Some of the male’s upper teeth revealed that he had seen a dentist at some point in his life as several dental fillings were found. He also had an upper left peg shaped tooth that might have been noticeable to others. Characteristics of his bottom teeth are unknown.

On November 7, 1998, the skeletal remains of a white female were found in a secluded wooded area in North Stafford off of Jefferson Davis Hwy (Rt.1) near Telegraph Rd. The female is believed to have been 28-45 years of age at the time of death. The victim was found with the following items of clothing:
• Blue Jeans
• Black leggings or stretch pants
• “Redskins” t-shirt
• Tiger stripe, camouflage, button up long sleeve shirt
• Size 8 ½ canvas high heeled shoes
• Dark brown, oval-shaped frame, sunglasses

The victim was also found with jewelry including:

• Black onyx cluster ring
• Black onyx “pentagram” ring

A small teddy bear trinket was also found near the remains.

“There are two families out there somewhere who have undoubtedly anguished over the whereabouts of their loved ones,” states Sheriff David Decatur. “It’s our hope that someone will recognize these facial approximations so that we can positively identify these two individuals and bring closure to their family members.”

If anyone has information as to the identity of these two individuals they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400, call Crime Solvers at 540-659-2020 (caller may remain anonymous) or TEXT “Stafford” + your tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
